What you'll learn
The course covers traffic laws, road signs, right-of-way rules, defensive driving habits, alcohol and drug awareness, and the concepts covered on the DMV written permit exam. It’s the foundation for what comes next — behind-the-wheel lessons, parent practice, and eventually the road test.
Important for parents
After your teen receives the instruction permit, the permit must be signed by a licensed driving instructor during the first behind-the-wheel lesson before the teen can practice driving with a parent or guardian.

Complete the course quizzes and final exam. You can retake them if needed — no pressure.
Your certificate of completion is mailed to you. Take it to the DMV to apply for your instruction permit.
