30-hour online course. Required for California teens ages 15½ to 17½. Complete from home at your own pace.

Pass the DMV knowledge test and vision exam. Your teen must be at least 15½ to apply for an instruction permit.

3 lessons, 2 hours each, with a licensed instructor. Free pickup and drop-off. Meets the California DMV minimum.

The permit must be held for at least 6 months and 1 day before your teen can take the road test.
Waiting period
50 hours of supervised driving with a licensed adult age 25+, including 10 hours at night.

Your teen is officially a licensed California driver.
