Start here if you’re new to Roadvia.
Do I need to call before booking?
No. Roadvia is designed for self-serve booking. You can view packages, choose the option that fits your situation, schedule online, and manage your lessons through your student account.
How do I know which package to choose?
Start with your situation. Teens who have not started usually begin with Driver’s Ed or a teen bundle. Teens who already have a permit can start with the 6-Hour Behind-the-Wheel package. Adults and seniors can start with a single 2-hour lesson, a 2-lesson package, or the Confidence Builder. Students close to a road test can choose Road Test Prep or Road Test Day.
How long is each behind-the-wheel lesson?
Roadvia behind-the-wheel lessons are 2 hours unless a specific package says otherwise. The Road Test Day package includes a 1-hour warm-up drive and test-day vehicle support.
Do I need a permit or license before taking a driving lesson?
Yes. Behind-the-wheel students must have a valid instruction permit or driver’s license before driving lessons can begin. Students should have the permit or license with them at every lesson.
Can nervous beginners take lessons with Roadvia?
Yes. Many Roadvia students are nervous, brand new, or returning after time away from driving. Lessons can start in quieter areas and build gradually as your confidence improves.
What areas does Roadvia serve?
Roadvia is based in Lakewood and serves nearby communities. Pickup and drop-off are available within Roadvia’s service area. If you are near the edge of the service area, confirm your pickup location when booking.
Driver’s Ed
Online Driver’s Ed questions.
Who needs Driver’s Ed in California?
California teens ages 15½ to 17½ need to complete a 30-hour driver education course before applying for an instruction permit. Adults 18 and older are not required to take Driver’s Ed.
How does Roadvia’s Driver’s Ed work?
Roadvia’s Driver’s Ed option is a 30-hour online course powered by WelcomeDriver. Students complete the course from home, on their own schedule, before applying for an instruction permit.
Can my teen take Driver’s Ed on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The online course is designed to be completed from home on a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. Progress is saved as the student moves through the course.
What happens after Driver’s Ed is completed?
After completing Driver’s Ed, the student receives the certificate needed for the permit application process. The student then applies for an instruction permit through the DMV.
Is Driver’s Ed the same as behind-the-wheel training?
No. Driver’s Ed is the classroom or online course. Behind-the-wheel training is in-car instruction with a licensed driving instructor after the student has an instruction permit. California teens need both before they can complete the teen licensing process.
Can I buy Driver’s Ed by itself?
Yes. Roadvia offers Driver’s Ed by itself, and it can also be included in teen packages that combine Driver’s Ed with behind-the-wheel training.
Teen Drivers
Teen permit and training questions.
What is the basic teen driver path in California?
Most teens start with Driver’s Ed, then apply for an instruction permit, complete professional behind-the-wheel training, practice with a parent or guardian, hold the permit for the required time, and then take the DMV road test when eligible and ready.
How many professional behind-the-wheel hours do teens need?
California teens need 6 hours of professional behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driving school. Roadvia’s 6-Hour Behind-the-Wheel package is 3 private 2-hour lessons.
Can my teen complete more than 2 hours of professional training in one day?
No. California limits professional behind-the-wheel driver training to 2 hours per day for teen drivers.
When can my teen practice with a parent or guardian?
After your teen receives an instruction permit, the permit must be signed by a licensed driving instructor during the first behind-the-wheel lesson before the teen can practice driving with a parent or guardian.
How much parent practice is required?
California teens need 50 hours of supervised practice with a licensed adult age 25 or older, including 10 hours at night.
How long does my teen need to hold the permit?
A teen permit must be held for at least 6 full months before the teen can take the road test. Many families plan for the next eligible test date after the 6-month mark to avoid scheduling too early.
What should my teen bring to every lesson?
Your teen should bring a valid California instruction permit to every behind-the-wheel lesson. If corrective lenses are required on the permit, the student should wear them during the lesson.
Which teen package should I choose?
If your teen has not started, the Driver’s Ed + Behind-the-Wheel package is usually the clearest starting point. If your teen already has a permit, choose the 6-Hour Behind-the-Wheel package. If you want Driver’s Ed, behind-the-wheel training, and Road Test Day support in one package, review the Teen Full Journey package.
Adult Lessons
Adult beginner and refresher questions.
Do adults need Driver’s Ed in California?
No. Adults 18 and older are not required to take Driver’s Ed in California.
Do adults need a permit before lessons?
Yes. Adults need a valid instruction permit or driver’s license before starting behind-the-wheel lessons.
How many lessons do adult beginners need?
There is no legal minimum number of professional lessons for adults. Some adults start with one 2-hour lesson, while brand-new or nervous drivers often benefit from a structured package with more practice time.
Can I practice with someone outside of Roadvia?
Yes. With a valid instruction permit, an adult student may practice with a California-licensed driver age 18 or older. Professional lessons are not required for adults, but they can help build safe habits and confidence.
I have never driven before. Is that okay?
Yes. Roadvia works with adult beginners. Lessons can start with basics such as mirrors, steering, braking, turns, and low-speed control before moving into traffic.
I already have a license but feel rusty. Can I still book?
Yes. Licensed adults can book refresher or defensive driving lessons to rebuild confidence, review parking, practice lane changes, improve freeway comfort, or sharpen everyday driving habits.
Is there a waiting period for adults before the road test?
Adults do not have the teen 6-month permit waiting period. Schedule the road test with DMV when you are eligible and feel ready.
Senior Refresher Lessons
Senior driver and family questions.
What is a senior refresher lesson?
A senior refresher lesson is a calm review of everyday driving skills. It can focus on parking, turns, lane changes, backing up, mirror checks, blind spots, traffic awareness, freeway comfort, or any area that feels less comfortable.
Is this only for seniors who have a DMV renewal test?
No. Senior refresher lessons are helpful for anyone who wants to stay sharp, rebuild confidence, adjust to a new area, or get a respectful outside review before a DMV visit or possible retest.
Do all drivers age 70 and older have to take a written test?
Not always. DMV renewal requirements can vary, and your DMV renewal notice will tell you what is required. Roadvia does not determine DMV testing requirements, but refresher lessons can help you feel more prepared and comfortable behind the wheel.
Can family members request a refresher lesson?
Yes. Family members often encourage a refresher lesson when they want a neutral instructor to review skills calmly and respectfully. The goal is not to embarrass anyone. The goal is to support safer, more confident driving.
Will Roadvia decide if someone should keep driving?
No. Roadvia provides instruction and skill review. Roadvia does not make licensing decisions or medical fitness decisions. DMV and qualified medical professionals handle those decisions.
Can a senior refresher lesson focus on one specific issue?
Yes. The lesson can focus on the skills that matter most to the student, such as parking, reversing, left turns, freeway driving, lane changes, traffic gaps, or driving in familiar neighborhoods.
Road Test Prep / Road Test Day
Road test questions.
What is the difference between Road Test Prep and Road Test Day?
Road Test Prep is a 2-hour practice lesson focused on safe driving skills, vehicle control, confidence, and road-test readiness. Road Test Day is for students who already have a DMV appointment and need a warm-up drive, check-in guidance, and use of Roadvia’s training vehicle for the road test.
Can Roadvia guarantee I will pass?
No. Roadvia helps students prepare, practice, and feel more confident, but DMV examiners make all pass/fail decisions independently. No driving school can guarantee road test results.
Can we practice the actual DMV test route?
No. Roadvia does not teach or rehearse specific DMV test routes. California rules do not allow driving schools to train students on the specific test administered by DMV. Instead, Roadvia focuses on safe driving habits, vehicle control, confidence, and the common skills evaluated during a road test.
Can I use Roadvia’s car for the road test?
Yes. When you book the Road Test Day package, Roadvia provides an insured, dual-brake training vehicle for the road test.
Do I need a DMV appointment before booking Road Test Day?
Yes. Road Test Day is for students who already have a DMV road test appointment. The appointment time affects instructor availability, travel time, warm-up time, and vehicle scheduling.
What should I bring on road test day?
Bring your valid California instruction permit, DMV appointment confirmation, and glasses or contacts if required. Teen students should also bring their behind-the-wheel completion certificate. Always check your DMV appointment instructions before test day to confirm current requirements.
What happens during Road Test Day?
Roadvia picks you up for a 1-hour warm-up drive, takes you to the DMV, provides check-in guidance, and provides the Roadvia training vehicle for the road test.
What does the DMV road test evaluate?
DMV evaluates whether you can safely operate a vehicle, use safe driving habits, and apply your knowledge of traffic laws in real driving situations.
What if I do not pass the road test?
It happens. You may be able to retake the road test after the required waiting period. A follow-up practice lesson can help you review the areas that need more attention before your next attempt.
Should I bring my DMV score sheet after an unsuccessful test?
Yes, if you have it. If you have your DMV score sheet or remember what you were marked on, bring it to the lesson. Your instructor can use it to guide practice around the skills that need more attention.
